Success Story: A Family Experience

“The CAC became our home away from home when we lost our normal.”

Through our CAC experience, we learned to use our VOICE! Our children now know how to speak up for themselves and protect their bodies. We as parents understand the responsibility to enlighten our area of the community to help end child sexual abuse.

Therapy at the CAC is so personal. Our family had such an array of different needs. Each one felt supported through the different options. Play therapy, art therapy, sensory play, one on one talk sessions, EMDR, group sessions, court prep, and victim rights assistance.

The medical team walked us through some of the hardest moments. They were gentle and comforting. Their equipment and knowledge brought us through the exams and tests safely. My children received hand-made blankets from the CAC, which they still sleep with years later.

“The moment we walked through the doors, we knew the people at the CAC understood what we were going through and what we needed.”

The trial support we experienced was amazing. It was a week of our lives we will remember forever. We were surrounded by encouragement, compassion, and understanding by the CAC team.

Forensic interviewing for our young children was something we thought of as impossible. We were proven wrong as soon as we walked through the door. My children were greeted in a way that made them feel safe. They engaged with and shared things with the interviewer with such ease and accuracy.

Being in one building and having all the services for everything there made the CAC a place that was so comfortable. We would pull up for the next visit and would look forward to the familiar front desk person. We would see people we had interacted with in the lobby or hallways, and they would remember the kids and talk with them. Everyone felt like family there.

“The CAC is a place for children. From the building itself, spaces, decor, and interactions with the staff, we knew we were safe! That was the most important thing.”
